I'm a freelance science/technology illustrator, specializing in digital photo manipulation for scientific images. My clients include Dennis Kunkle Microscopy, Carus Publishing, Preface, Fitzsimmons Communications, World Book, Northwest Eye Center, Oxford University Press, and others.

I've designed and currently manage some commercial web sites.

I'm experienced in textbook development and textbook project management. I was the scientific illustrator and graphic designer for the 1995 Living Ocean studies project of the Hawaii Marine Science Studies (HMSS) of the Curriculum Research Development Group of the University of Hawaii.

My hand drawn and computer illustrator styles include stipple, line, and graphite smudge.

I also work as an instruction sheet/manual designer and writer for several point-of-purchase display firms on a freelance basis - RTC, Design Phase, Niven Marketing Group, AGI Schutz. (I consider all such work proprietary, and do not display it. Contact me for some generic samples.)

I have a BA in zoology from the University of Hawaii. Check out the Art Page for more about my educational and work background.

This site shows my art and commercial work, and some free images for backgrounds or screen-savers.

News of Literary Import:

This year marks 200 years since the birth of Charles Darwin, and 150 years since the publication of The Origin of Species. To mark the anniversaries, submissions are invited for The Tangled Bank, an e-anthology of speculative fiction, artwork, and poetry exploring the legacy of Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution. Illuminate -- or obscure -- the line between the real and the fantastic. The fiction may be of any speculative genre or cross-genre; demand to be included by the quality of your submission. Artwork and poetry need not be strictly speculative in nature, but must engage with Charles Darwin or evolution.

The Tangled Bank will be published by Tangled Bank Press in late 2009.
For submission guidelines and more information, visit http://thetangledbank.com/.

And now, Poetry Corner:

FTL Universal Judgement

The ansible tracked on the tachyon's flow
and listened, listened to the Yes No Yes No.
The edge of the galaxy's silver dust streaks
reflected the flow as echoing beats
that away again pulsed to the empty beyond
'tween the particle space and elastic bonds
that hold the two options of Yes and of No,
and justified all of the tachyon's flow.

The neighboring galaxies took up the beat
and the anisble listened to Yes No repeats
till all that was heard in the Universe wide
was the Yes No Yes No whispering tide
of the tachyon's flow that would fill up all space
and guide all reactions in time and in place.
